New Problem

Dear Readers,

The laptop is still suffering a problem, and I couldn't find a way to fix it.

Google Chrome is now on the laptop as part of Windows 8.1 and it's running like 20 times and eating up memory like crazy.

I couldn't find Chrome on there easily to uninstall it. It's not showing up under Programs or Windows Components.

By the time a search got me to it the memory was closing it out.

So this is the next issue to resolve.

Sincerely,
Gensabi

  1. i feel for you computer problems can be so frustrating.. its like the people with no lives need to find a hobby rather then sitting at a computer trying to ruin or make other people's lives miserable. if I ever meet one of those people..

  2. That's probably a Flash Player issue. I know it eats up memory like crazy on my computer. Unfortunately, Chrome doesn't let you kill Flash without shutting down the whole browser. Two solutions for you.
    1. Move to Firefox. There, you can just open the task manager and kill Flash whenever it slows down your computer too much.
    2. Set the Flash plugin to "Ask to Activate" or whatever the Chrome equivalent of that is. Doing that will prevent Flash from starting by default and instead ask you if it's okay on a case by case basis.

    1. Actually I get pop ups saying Chrome is crashed, restart Chrome, and in Task Manager every time I end one of the 20 running it just starts up again. I don't even use Chrome. It shouldn't be running at all. That's why I want it off!

    2. Oh. Well, that was probably a virus, then. I suggested it might be Flash Player because I know from experience that Chrome plugins just show up as Google Chrome in the task manager, and Flash has been causing issues on pretty much every computer I use.

Hard to diagnose accurately when I don't have the computer in front of me, so I just went with what sounded likely.

  3. I think I fixed it. Spybot didn't recognize it, but from task manager I was able to find the source folder for this thing pretending to be Google Chrome. I stopped my WiFi and was able to close it out completely and delete it. No more Google Chrome multiplying in the background and memory is good!
