Dear Readers,
So my Windows tablet is still having problems. I turn it on, I get through the pin screen, everything looks fine, then I click on a folder and bam! It turns off. Or I get a runtime error before it conks out. It took several tries last night before I got it working and knocked out the rest of what I've posted. Also it keeps fluctuating from 3 gigs free to just one or under. I don't even have much stuff on there. Even deleted some already backed up uncapped pics for more space. I don't know if or when new ones will be made. Actually been in the mood to cap lately but oh well. I do still have an unfinished series as a draft I can post but that's it. The space thing is driving me crazy.
Sincerely,
Gensabi
I’ve had issues before with streaming apps not deleting downloaded videos fully if you’ve ever done anything like that on the tablet.. is there a space for a microsd card, they’re pretty cheap nowadays.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing I use it for is capping & internet browsing. I just changed out a microSD card but it doesn't want to be accessed.
DeleteMay just need to reformat it with a reader and a computer. That error happens sometimes with things like Switches and even back on the 3DS family of systems. No WiFi needed.
Deleteget yourself a PC
ReplyDeleteLast time I turned on my laptop it wouldn't connect to wifi. Although we were having internet problems. Right now it's working again though.
DeleteWhat kind of tablet do you have? Type year, brand?
ReplyDeleteIt's a Digiland brand Windows OS tablet. I don't even remember when I bought it. I think it had Windows 8 or 10. It was a very cheap tablet.
DeleteRight now I can get it to work on the 3rd or 4th try to turn on. I just backed up everything on it except the caps I just made to finish off "Changing Lives".
Found this on redditt. Hope it helps
DeleteIt sounds like your Digiland Windows tablet is right on the edge of storage failure or OS corruption. Everything you described is classic for low-storage Windows devices + aging eMMC storage.
Let’s break this down and figure out the most likely cause and the steps you can take.
✅ What Your Symptoms Point To1. Sudden shutdowns when opening a folder
This often means:
The OS is trying to load Explorer but has no free storage to create temp files, so it crashes.
OR the internal storage (usually cheap eMMC on low-end tablets) is failing.
2. Runtime errors before shutdown
Usually indicates:
Corrupt system files
Failing storage sectors
Not enough memory or disk space to run required system processes
3. Free space fluctuating from 3 GB → 1 GB → under 1 GB
This almost always means:
Windows is trying to update or perform maintenance, downloading or extracting update files.
The storage is so small that even temporary system files push it over the limit.
OR the eMMC chip is wearing out and misreporting available space.
4. Old Digiland tablet with Windows 8/10
Most Digiland tablets had:
16GB or 32GB total storage
2GB RAM
Very cheap eMMC storage with a short lifespan
These devices barely ran Windows 10 even when brand new.
✔️ Most Likely Root CauseYour tablet’s internal storage is either:A) Full to the point of breaking the OS
or
B) Dying (common on cheap tablets)
Both produce the exact problems you're seeing.
🔧 Try These Fixes (In Order)1. Boot and immediately free up space
As soon as you log in, before opening anything:
Press:
Windows Key → type “Disk Cleanup” → Open
Then:
Check all boxes, especially:
Temporary files
Windows Update Cleanup
Delivery Optimization files
System error memory dump files
Recycle Bin
Run cleanup twice.
2. Remove Windows Updates
These tablets often can’t finish updates and get stuck in a loop.
Go to:
Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update → View update history → Uninstall updates
Remove recent cumulative updates.
3. Disable Windows Update completely
This stops it from filling your tablet again.
Press:
Windows Key → type “services.msc” → open → scroll to “Windows Update” → Disable
4. Check Storage for Huge Hidden FoldersOpen:
Settings → System → Storage
Look for:
Temporary files
Windows.old
System & reserved (if it’s huge, you’re in trouble)
5. Run System File Checker
If you can get into Windows long enough:
Open Command Prompt as admin and run:
bash
Copy code
sfc /scannow
and then:
swift
Copy code
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
If it errors out, that’s a sign the storage chip is failing.
❗ If It Still Randomly Turns Off…
This means the internal storage is failing physically.
Cheap tablets with eMMC often die after a few years.
Symptoms of failing eMMC:
Random shutdowns
Files not opening
Explorer crashes
Constant storage fluctuation
SFC and DISM failing
If that matches you, it's hardware failure.
🛑 If your tablet has only 16GB or 32GB storage
Windows 10 simply cannot run correctly anymore on that.
Over time, updates fill the drive until it becomes unusable.
🕊️ If All Else Fails — Your Best Options
Because Digiland tablets are cheap and not repairable, the realistic options are:
✔️ Reset Windows (if possible)
Go to:
Settings → Update & Security → Recovery → Reset this PC
Choose Remove everything.
BUT this will fail if the storage is too corrupt.
✔️ Use a USB reinstall (if the tablet supports OTG + USB boot)
Some Digiland models do, some don’t.
✔️ Replace the tablet
That might be helpful if I can get it back up again. Tried three times tonight and last one was display driver error. I was able to finagle a folder open tried to make a cap but nothing I tapped up top would work or at the bottom.
DeleteI can access the blog from my Kindle Fire but I can't cap on this device.
It hasn't been able to do Windows updates for a long time. Had to update Edge separately awhile back.
I hope I can do one last backup, but if not I can save the newest stuff I did from here. I uploaded everything last time. Should've backed it up on flash drive before turning off but I thought maybe it's be ok.
Hope it helps. I don't want you to retire yet.
